No that long ago, a pocket drone named Dobby appeared on one of Chinese crowdfunding servers. In only 24 hours, over one million dollars was collected and the Zerotech Dobby, that is responsible for the development of this product, could celebrate. The interest in this compact drone went beyond all the expectations and the project became famous almost over night.
Although it may not seem at the first sight, it is a quadcopter. The arms with motors are hidden in the body and get pulled out after pressing a button. It can be carried in a pocket easily then.
Drone Dobby deceives by appearance. Regardless of its small dimensions (135 x 67 x 36.8 mm), there is high quality electronics inside. The heart of it is the processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 working at the frequency of 2.3 GHz that we could have seen in the best smartphones two years ago. There’s also 2 GB RAM. On the front side, there is a 13 MPx camera capable of recording videos in 4K at 30 fps while streaming them to your smartphone. The image is stabilized by software and is saved in internal storage with the capacity of 16 GB. If we take a look at connectivity, there is Wi-Fi, GPS and GLONASS too, available. Dobby can even handle automatic flying according the route set.
Because drone Dobby is controlled only via an app in smartphone, the range of the signal is 100 meters. The accumulator has the capacity of 970 mAh and the manufacturer claims the maximum flight time is 9 minutes.
The price on presale is $319.99 and the first takers will get theirs at the beginning of August.
