Almost complete specifications of the announced Xiaomi YI 4K Action Camera appeared on the official YI (Xiaomi’s subsidiary) website (yitechnology.com). But there’s more. These specs were compared to its main competitor – GoPro Hero4 Black.
Although GoPro is still a bit ahead of these Chinese products, the mentioned 4K YI Sport Camera might make this American manufacturer a little bit worried. The YI 4K camera should be released on the 12th of May. But why wait when we already show all the specs because of the YI’s IT admins unintentional leak. However, the said comparison is unfortunately no longer available on the same website. The admins probably noticed the mistake and blocked the page on Sunday (see the screen below).
In comparison to GoPro Hero 4 Black, 4K YI Action Camera is going to be fitted with a better image processing chip – Ambarella A9SE. Furthermore, it should offer the 12Mpx Sony IMX377 sensor and most importantly, a 2.2” touchscreen (640 x 360). A dual band WiFi module providing connectivity with other smart devices can be found in the camera as well. The higher capacity of the battery (1400 mAh) which should guarantee a 120 minutes of operation is a nice addition as well.
As mentioned above, you will be able to record in 4K at 30 fps. There’s also a 240fps HD mode available.
It seems that YI Action Camera is coming with pretty impressive specs which could help many of us when choosing. We can only wonder what the price tag is going to be but one may expect an aggressive price as usual when it comes to this company. Some of the Chinese resellers already offer this camera at the quite high price of $299.
